How to Reach Positano in Amalfi Coast from Salerno, Italy

Visited Salerno yesterday and had to help a young couple to go to Positano.

If you do not know it, Positano is a little beautiful village, a nice dream of many persons. The problem is that is is situated in a very inaccessible place. Both from Naples/ Sorrento and from Salerno the way to reach it is complicated.
Here, in this post, I'll explain you how can you reach Positano from Salerno.

When you arrive in Salerno with a train and go out on the square of the railway station, you will see this:

As I told you in my other posts, you HAVE to purchase bus tickets to the place you will go after it.
The best solution is to do it directly here.
AND if you have to turn back after your trip, I advice you to buy you return ticket, too.

It's hard to explaine, but there are not tickets in the busses (most) and, in many settlings, it's really impossible to find where to purchase them.
From the other side, the driver will not allow you to enter the bus without ticket or, if you enter, the controllers can create great problems for you.

Tourists often complain bad behavour of the controllers.
And it's sad, when you reach the bus without a ticket, but the driver does not allow you to enter and you have to wait one or even more hours for the next bus.

The second possibility to purchase tickets is the shop on the right of the station. Here you can see the timetables of different busses, too.
But we will discuss different possibilities to reach Positano in this post.

How to Reach Positano From Salerno

There are 3 possibilities to reach Positano from Salerno:
-autobus
-ferry
-taxi (about euro 150-500)

The easiest way is to take an autobus.
But FIRST Buy your tickets! :-)
You have to go first to Amalfi (euro 2,20), than from Amalfi to Positano
Mind the very hard serpentine road.
If you choose to take a bus, it's better not to eat before you reach the place you go.

The street near the church will direct you to a great bus stop where you can take a bus to the different important directions such as Naples, Avellino, Bari etc.

By the way. If you stay in Salerno and want to visit Naples, I advice you to take a bus, not a train. You will reach Naples not far from the Central station (first stop when you go out from the expressway) or near the touristic port Beverello (last stop). It's the quickiest possibility.

The bus is the easiest way to reach Bari, too.

The next and better way to reach Positano from Salerno is to prefer a ferry. It will cost more (euro 8 to Amalfi), but you avoid that serpantine and can stay with confort all the way.

The railway station is situated only about 150 meters from the sea (go right from the station). You have to cross the Concordia square (near the sea) and go right to the end of the pier.
