It is important to note that when we deviate from the designated paths and attempt to take shortcuts, we often end up crossing through meadows. This can be dangerous for multiple reasons. First, the ground may have hidden holes beneath the grass, which are hard to spot. And, by veering off the path, there is a risk of accidentally disturbing small animals that may be concealed in the area. For instance, a snake may be peacefully basking in the sun, sheltered between the stones to shield itself from cold winds. While it is easy to spot them on the designated trail, they are typically harder to detect among the grass and stones. Vipers, in particular, can be found at elevations above 2000 meters throughout the region.
However, hikers are advised to wait for the trail to dry during rainy periods to avoid muddy conditions.
Before embarking on a hike, it is essential to check the weather conditions in the specific area you plan to visit. Due to the presence of high mountains, one city can be sunny while another experiences rain.
Walking in the rain is not an issue if that is your preference. However, it is important to note that damp soil and wet stones can pose a safety hazard. There have been instances where seemingly dry stones have caused hikers to slip and fall. If this were to occur on a well-traveled trail, assistance would likely be available. However, on less frequented paths, it may be more challenging to receive immediate aid.
This year, CAI created a specific app, Georesq. Upload it or/ and other similar apps like FlagMe etc before you go hike. AND you need GPS. Something like Map. me, Outdooractive, etc. The normal line is very often absent in the mountains.
