Routine and Responsibilities
Life in a castle followed a strict hierarchy. The lord and his family were at the top, followed by a team of servants, soldiers, and craftsmen. Their daily routines revolved around managing the estate, overseeing farming, and making sure the castle was secure.
Feasts and Famine
Food was a major part of castle life. The kitchen staff worked hard to prepare extravagant feasts that showed off the lord's wealth. These meals often included roasted meats, fresh bread, and exotic spices. However, during times of siege or poor harvests, the inhabitants faced the harsh reality of food shortages and had to rely on stored grains and preserved meats.
Entertainment and Leisure
Entertainment was crucial for keeping morale high in the often isolated and austere castle environment. You could find the inhabitants engaging in activities like hunting, jousting tournaments, and feasts accompanied by music and dance. The lady of the castle would often oversee needlework, embroidery, and other crafts, which served as both a pastime and a way to create valuable goods.
