Your task: Try analyzing your life to understand where your today’s vacation preferences come from. Or how I uncovered the origins of my vacation preferences.

Do you have a dream vacation?
I’m not sure… What comes to mind when you say “vacation”? For me, it’s a few days or a week at the beach. My ideal getaway involves being near “big water.”
My father took my sister and me to Crimea every summer as a little girl. We lived in a tent on the beach for a month, which was common then. Entire towns of tents sprawled in popular vacation spots, and city dwellers would pitch tents by rivers, lakes, or the sea for after-work getaways.
The tents remained vacant on weekdays, furnished with mattresses and essential items. No one thought to vandalize or steal anything. These tent towns always had residents; every evening, people gathered to share a meal, sing, and converse by the fireplace.
Years later, when we lived in Lithuania, our family vacationed by the Baltic Sea. Factories, including the one where my mother worked as a nurse, provided or rented small houses in seaside towns for their workers. Each factory employee could spend a week with family in these simple accommodations, which consisted of a bedroom. Kitchens were shared, allowing everyone to prepare their meals.
