My Two-Day Coastal Caper: Sun, Storms, and "Viking Skin" Woes

A h, the siren call of the Ligurian Sea! Fresh off a train from Biella, I recently embarked on a two-day “vacation” to Savona and Genoa Quinto al Mare. The goal? A relaxing seaside escape, a chance to swap my usual scenery for something a bit more… oceanic.

Little did I know, this trip would be less about serene swims and more about unexpected adventures, proving once again that even the best-laid plans can go wonderfully awry. 

My “Viking skin,” a term I affectionately use for my particular brand of pale, sun-averse epidermis, was, as always, a key player in this drama. Despite the not-blistering temperatures, the sun decided to put on a dazzling, hard-shining performance, making it abundantly clear that every inch of me needed to be covered. Think less “beach babe,” more “mummy chic.”
